I got my first taste of Special Effects Makeup in my late teens. Working on whatever Community Theater productions I could find, I continued to pursue the craft and the art of Makeup, first enrolling in Cosmetology school, and later at a Makeup School in LA.
Ever thirsty to know more, I began to drive around LA, knocking on doors of several Makeup Effects shops, hoping to have the chance to work with the pros. That chance came on October 31, 1987 when I was hired by Stan Winston Studios to help with the preproduction work on the film "Alien Nation". I was only there for 4 days, but I was hooked.
Since that time, I have worked on hundreds of productions at various levels and positions at many different FX shops and on-set for countless Movies and TV Shows. Throughout those years, I had the good fortune to have the opportunity to work with some of the top artists in the business: Rick Baker, Rob Bottin, Greg Cannom, Barney Burman, Tom Burman, Tony Gardner, Corey Castellano, Steve Johnson, Stevie Bettles, Mark Nieman, Dave Dupuis, Don & Deborah Rutherford, Joel Harlow, and dozens of others.
Over the past 5 decades I’ve tried to balance my experiences between pre-production work and on-set application, equally enjoying both facets of the art. And in-between productions I taught Makeup at two of the most prodigious Makeup Schools in the country, Make-up Designory and Cinema Makeup School.
One question is often asked of me, “What is your favorite thing to do in the world of Makeup FX?” My answer is always the same…
“What I enjoy the most is creating a character from start to finish; from concept and design - beginning with Lifecasting, all the way through to on-set application. To me, this is the most rewarding experience in this unique art form.”

When Sandra met Greg, everything changed. As she transferred from one country to another, she also transferred from one career into the eclectic world of Makeup Effects, finding there a better fit for her abilities and talent.
Beginning with shop work she became proficient in the art of Hair Punching, contributing to several shows, at Creature Effects, Inc. and other prominent FX shops. She was also learning prosthetic application, bringing her talents on-set.
Sandra has also shined as a straight/natural makeup artist, becoming the Makeup Department Head on a couple of shows on which her husband, Greg, headed up the Makeup FX.
Sandra has been instrumental in establishing FXetc Makeup Effects School where she has an active role in the day-to-day management, marketing, and education.
